Q Why choose Reflexology...?
...Whether you have a particular health problem or you are simply looking for a way to reduce tension and feel better, Reflexology may be the answer.  It is believed that Reflexology helps strenghen the immune system, detoxifies the body and brings about total relaxation - this is important - when the body is in a stressed, tense state, illnesses are more likely to occur.

Q I haven't experienced Reflexology before, what is it?
...Reflexology is a complementary therapy which works on the feet (or if preferred the hands).  It is based on the principle that specific areas on the feet (reflex points) correspond to different organs and systems of the body.  By applying pressure massage to these reflexes, it is believed that the whole body is stimulated to restore and maintain a balance of natural equilibrium.

Q Why would Reflexology be good for me?...Reflexology may offer relief from conditions or presenting symptoms related to:
  • Migraine and headaches
  • Insomnia
  • Sciatica and back pain
  • Psoriasis
  • Digestive disorders - including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Respiratory disorders
  • Stress related conditions
  • Hormone imbalances
  • Subfertility - male and female
  • Menopause
  • Symptoms associated with Chemotherapy
  • Pre menstrual tension
  • Pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness, ankle swelling, indigestion, insomnia, etc.
  • 21st century stresses and strains!
  • ... and many more

Q I've booked my first Reflexology treatment, what can I expect?

... You can expect the first session to last about 60 minutes.  A detailed medical and lifestyle consultation will be followed by a Reflexology treatment in a reclining chair.  You will only be asked to remove your footwear.Reflexology treatments are tailored to the individual and based on the meridians, as used in Acupuncture.

Q Will I experience any discomfort?
... Firm pressure will be applied to the feet during the Reflexology treatment.  Some people experience sensations or twinges, and possibly a feeling of grittiness or lumpiness in certain reflex points.  The treatment will be tailored to the individual and lighter pressure will be used in sensitive areas.

Reflexology #01Q I see you offer Hand Reflexology and Hot Stone Reflexology - how do these differ from traditional Reflexology?
...Traditional Reflexology is carried out in a reclining chair and concentrates on reflex points on the feet (and sometimes in conjunction with the hands). You will only be asked to remove footwear.

...Hand reflexology is offered especially if someone has a phobia about feet, for a hospital patient, or someone with limited time and in a place where it is not convenient to take shoes and socks off! Again, as with traditional reflexology massage pressure is applied to the reflex points on the hands.

Hand reflexology techniques are also useful for "self-treating" at home once a foot reflexology session has taken place.

Reflexology #02...Hot Stone Reflexology incorporates the use of Basalt stones into the treatment. These are bathed in warm water and fragrant oils. You will lay on these stones (yes it's more comfortable than it sounds!) and a treatment is carried out on the feet and hands using smaller hot stones.

You will only be asked to remove footwear. No need to undress - but it is recommended to wear a t-shirt or lighter clothing in order to benefit from the soothing effects of the hot stones on the back.

Q How will I feel after the Reflexology treatment?
... You will feel relaxed, invigorated and experience a sense of calm and well-being.

Sometimes people report feeling lethargic, experience a muzzy head or need to urinate more - don't be discouraged - it is believed that this is your body releasing stored and unwanted toxins.

Q Will one Reflexology treatment be sufficient?
... More than one treatment is recommended but will be dependent on the condition or presenting symptoms you are experiencing. A course of six treatments is the average - these could be weekly, fortnightly or monthly. It is considered worthwhile continuing with monthly maintenance treatments in order to maximise the benefits gained.

If you would rather just have a "one off" treatment, that is fine too.

Some of my clients have Reflexology treatments (especially Hot Stone Reflexology) to help them relax from the stresses and strains of the 21st century. After a treatment they bounce/float out of the clinic ready to face our fast-paced world!

Q When should I avoid a Reflexology treatment?
... You should avoid having a treatment if you are currently suffering from Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), experiencing undiagnosed internal bleeding, pregnancy in the first trimester (or with a history of unstable pregnancy), or if you are currently undergoing conventional medical tests. If you have a specific medical problem, you are advised to seek professional medical help.

....I specialise in Pre-conception & Pregnancy Reflexology & I am a Recognised Practitioner with the Gentle Birth Method (The Jeyarani Way)
... Whether you are planning on getting pregnant in the future or are currently trying for a baby or are pregnant & are suffering from swollen ankles, morning sickness (or all day!), tiredness etc, my clients say that Reflexology is great for balancing hormone levels, excellent for relaxation & assisting & maintaining the body's natual equilibrium for a healthy, happy pregnancy. And the baby seems to love reflexology too whilst still in the womb!

...TESTIMONIALS
"I have found reflexology a wonderful experience. I started having treatments to help settle my hormones following a few years of fertility problems - and found it very calming and soothing. I'm now expecting my first baby and can't recommend reflexology highly enough!"

"I first came to Janet when I wanted to start trying for a baby, but was having trouble getting my first period after coming off the pill. This problem was solved after 3 reflexology sessions and I conceived my daughter within the first month of having a regular cycle. I came back to Janet while I was pregnant, close to my due date and she definitely helped to kick-start the labour! I would gladly recommend Janet for reflexology, not only did it help me achieve my goals, but it is a very enjoyable experience."

"During my pregnancy I suffered terrible morning sickness, feeling terrible and being sick several times a day for weeks on end. Never having tried reflexology I was sceptical about it's effectiveness but I was willing to try anything to get through each day! From the very first session I noticed a difference - not only was it very calming and relaxing but the nausea lessened, I slept better and although I was still sick I found it easier to cope with and could function during the day. I felt the reflexology "cleaned me out" effectively and definitely worked better than anything else I tried. I would advise anyone finding pregnancy difficult to try it."
